Gum Treatment and Scaling – Oral Prophylaxis

GUM TREATMENT AND SCALING – ORAL PROPHYLAXIS :-

Scaling and root planing is a dental procedure that treat gum disease by removing plaque and tartar from teeth and smoothing tooth roots.

By scaling method we only remove the plaque and tartar from tooth surface and by root planing

we induce the gingival reattachment to the root surface of the tooth which hasbeen lost in earlier days leads to loosen of tooth and latter may fall of the tooth from mouth.

Scaling and root planing is also known as a deep cleaning. It may recomend for the patient with periodontitis and advance form of gum disease.

After the procedure regular brushing and flossing and regular dental check-up is mandetory to successful outcome of the treatment and prevent future gum problems.


Types of gingivitis ,

1 . Plaque-induced gingivitis : – The most common type caused by plaque buildup on the teeth and gums.

2 . Non-plaque-induced gingivitis :- It can caused by virus and bacteria, allergics, wound and certain lesion or illness or maybe genetic cause.

3 . Acute gingivitis :- Maybe caused by trauma to the gum or specific lesion or infection.

4 . Chronic gingivitis :- Caused by plaque that covers the teeth.

5 . Diabetic gingivitis :- Common in diabetic patient, which can caused by dry mouth and burning tongue.

6 . Acute traumatic gingivitis :- Caused by physical, chemical or tharmal factors.

7 . Acute non-specific gingivitis :- Often an exacerbation of chronic gingivitis, or may caused by mouth breathing or lac of lip seal.

8 . Acute hypersensitivity reaction :- An allergic reaction to the ingradients in cosmetics or tooth pestes.

9 . Acute necrotizing ulcerative gingivitis :- Characterized by ulcers that spread rapidly throughout the gingiva.

10 . HIV associated gingivitis :- Acute form of gingivitis that affects people with AIDS.

11 . Acute herpetic gingivostomatitis :- Symptoms are oral mucosa soreness, small vesicles that brust into ulcers and a bright red halo.

If left untreated then all above these can progress to periodontitis.


SYPMTOMS OF PERIODONTITIS :-

Sore, inflamed and red gums,

Discomfort within the mouth,

Gum bleeding on brushing or floosing,

Gum receding,

Looseness of teeth,

Teeth drifting,

Pus is visible in between gums and teeth,

Halitosis or bad breath.


Treatmrnt :-

Gum treatment or scaling, root planing, gingival pocket elimination surgery and maintain good oral habit which include regular brushing, flossing, using mouth wash prescribed by your dentist and periodical chech-up.


Some natural gingivitis are ,

1 . Pregnancy gingivitis :-

It occurs dueto hormonal changes during pregnancy. Treatment of it include,

Regular dental check-up,

Proper bruesing and flossing,

Uses of antimicrobial mouth wash prescribed by dentist,

Proper nutrition.


2 . Puberty gingivitis :-

It is type of gum disease that affects in preadolecent and teenaged children between the age of 11 yrs to 13 yrs.

Reason of it includes,

Hormonal changes,

Poor oral hygine,

Malnutrition,

Stress.

If it left untreated then it can lead to more serious periodontal disease.

3 . Childhood gingivitis :-

It is a mild form of gingivitis occurs in children. It is painless, so, often it left untreated. But if it remain untreated for long time it can develop a serious periodontal disease which leads to loss of teeth in childhood only.

So, periodical dental check-up is necessory.
